The Family Man Season 2
Catchy theme song, more action, more stars, and anything but "minimum"
Language: Hindi.
Genre: Thriller, Drama.
Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video.
This season the action shifts to Chennai, where Srikant and his team have to stop an attack on the Prime Minister of India by a group of Sri Lankan rebels.
As promised by the trailer, plenty of action has been incorporated into the second season.
Superlative Acting
The show brings back the stellar cast comprising Manoj Bajpayee (Srikant Tiwari), Priyamani (Suchi Tiwari), Sharib Hashmi (JK Talpade), Sunny Hinduja (Milind), Sharad Kelkar (Arvind), Shreya Dhanwanthary (Zoya), and Darshan Kumar (Major Sameer).
Of course, the new major addition to the cast is Samantha Akkineni who plays the role of Raji, a highly trained rebel.
Manoj Bajpayee is outstanding in the second season. From portraying Srikant's strained relationship with Suchi to losing his colleagues in action, Bajpayee has played the tough guy and the vulnerable person in need of a shoulder with absolute finesse.
Likewise, Samantha's debut in the OTT space has seen her break away from her conventional roles. She completely gets into the skin of the character and excels in her role.
Although Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni have played their roles effortlessly, the entire ensemble of The Family Man must be lauded for their superlative acting.
Sharib Hashmi, who recently delivered another fantastic performance in the poignant movie Darbaan, has nailed the comic dialogues perfectly. In fact, the humour sprinkled here and there in the show makes the series even more watchable.
A special mention should also go to child actors Ashlesha Thakur (Dhriti) and Vedant Sinha (Atharv). Their acting is very natural and the common brother-sister rivalry, calling each other names, and petty fights make The Family Man very relatable. This takes the series to a different level altogether.
A thriller series combined with family drama can go wrong in more ways than one, but The Family Man doesn't make this mistake. Kudos to the director duo for that.
Screenplay and Background Score
Needless to say, the screenplay is very crisp.
There are hardly any scenes where one feels the story has been dragged, except a few instances where the police chases seem a bit stretched.
The background score is superb and maintains the tension throughout the series. Of course, the theme song is another reason why you just can't over the series.
Analysis and Verdict
Normally, the first season of a show or web series delivers well, but there tends to be a slight drop in the quality in the later seasons. This isn't the case with The Family Man which keeps one absolutely mesmerized and on the edge of their seats.
Undoubtedly, the directors of The Family Man, Raj, and D.K. have given fans an excellent second season. So much so, that fans are already demanding a third season of the show.
Season 2 is better than the first season as it delivers more thrills, more action, and delves deeper into the existing characters. Although, we don't get the answers to a few questions in the series, overall, The Family Man Season 2 is definitely worth your time.
With just 9 episodes, the second season makes for an excellent weekend binge and is sure to make you keep wanting more.
"With its catchy theme song, The Family Man returns with more thrill and drama mixed in the right quantity."
Cinemania Guru Rating - 9.5/10
Extra 📰 - Priyamani made an appearance in the song "One Two Three Four" of Shah Rukh Khan's hit film "Chennai Express".
